Have you produced or contributed to technical communication products that you think are worthy of awards, or would you like feedback on a project you are currently working on?
This year, the STC-SM chapter is teaming up with the STC West Michigan Shores (WMS) chapter to host the STC Regional Technical Communication Competition! Entries must qualify as technical communication in one of the following categories: informational, instructional, user support, or promotional material.
Why enter your work in this competition? Among other reasons, a technical communication competition provides a fantastic opportunity to:
focus and develop your current portfolio of work
receive constructive feedback and valuable insights from experienced technical communications professionals
boost your confidence and pride in your individual or team accomplishments
obtain recognition within the STC organization and greater community of technical communications professionals
add an accolade to your résumé
The call for entries is now open! You do not need to be a member of STC to enter your work, and group entries are also welcome. For details on entry eligibility and fees, how to submit an entry, and more, see the STC Regional Technical Communication Competition page. The deadline for submissions is Friday, November 2, so don’t delay!

Spring is finally here, and so is a wide array of professional conferences to attend. You may remember my recap of the STC Summit last year and my belief in the value of attending professional conferences. With the long, dreary winter days behind us, spring is the perfect time to reenergize, set new goals, expand your network, learn something new, and reawaken that drive to advance your career, or even consider a career change. It was a pleasure and privilege for me to attend the STC Summit in Anaheim, California this year. As a first-time Summit attendee, I had no idea what to expect and wasn’t even sure if the conference would be worth the time and expense involved. An introvert by nature, I was also unsure whether I could feel at ease in such a large group setting.
I am pleased to say, however, that I came away with more inspiration and information than I can summarize in this short article. I left the Summit overflowing with ideas and could fill pages just trying to recap some of the things I learned and the topics I discussed with the many people I met. Instead, I want to take a few moments to encourage those of you who have not attended the STC Summit or other STC conference that participating in such events is well worth it!
