Chapter Election

The STC/SM council is happy to announce that election time is here, in accordance with the Chapter Bylaws. We are actively working on the nominations process for the 2011-2012 chapter term, and we are excited about the coming year. Newly-elected officers and nominations committee members serve one chapter term, the fiscal year of the chapter, running July 1 to June 30.

The election is a perfect time to volunteer for the chapter—a great way to realize benefits from participation and membership in STC. Volunteering and serving as a chapter officer is a rewarding experience with limited time commitments. Renew your professional development goals this spring along with us for the chapter election.

The ballot includes six elected positions, consisting of nominations for the chapter officers (except the Immediate Past President), and two Nominations Committee positions.

Slate of Candidates

Chapter members are receiving an official ballot and brief survey in the mail to fill out and return. Although it provides information about the candidates, please take a few minutes to review more information about the candidates that we are providing online.

Each candidate answered seven questions, giving members information about the candidates' experiences with STC and technical communications. Click the link to view the full responses to the questions in a PDF file.

Volunteering for the Chapter Council

In addition to elected positions, we also work with other volunteers on a range of projects and activities. We maintain formal positions, have volunteers directed by committee managers, and bring in other volunteers for events, special projects, and support with chapter activities. As volunteers are always welcome, for projects both large and small, you can lend a hand for just a few hours, jump in and tackle a long-term project, or make a commitment to the chapter for at least a full term/year. Regardless, STC/SM maintains an environment to encourage the participation of volunteers, and the generous donation of their time and talent. (Note: Membership in STC/SM is not a requirement for volunteering. However, chapter membership is required for Executive Administration Council and Nominations Committee positions.)

Contacting Us about Volunteering

We always have a place for new volunteers, as well as the donation of specialized skills. If you are interested in helping out, please send an email to < nominations@stc-sm.org >, or another STC/SM volunteer. Or, if you prefer, download the STC/SM Time & Talent Survey from the Volunteer Opportunities page, at < www.stc-sm.org/volunteerOpportunities.htm >.

Voting in the Chapter Election

Please mail your ballots to the chapter PO Box and follow the instructions in the form. Though our ballot is uncontested this year, our bylaws require that we hold annual elections, and your participation and survey feedback is very important to us. Please return your ballots promptly (in the enclosed SASE), so that all votes can be counted. Thank you for your participation in this election!
