Technical Writer Needed

Responsibilities
This position is responsible for creating accurate and complete technical documentation to support internal IS systems and processes as well as the company's proprietary software. This position requires the design, development, and editing of technically-orientated IS documentation as well as associated supporting processes necessary to satisfy IS Department SASE audit requirements, operational stability, and ongoing department effectiveness.
Essential Functions
- Work with the IS Department Manager of Business Analysis and QA, in conjunction with the IS Department Director, to identify, prioritize, and manage a master list of business-critical IS Operations and Development processes.
- Design and develop process documentation per the IS Department processes master list so as to ensure IS Department SASE compliance.
- Manage the technical documentation development process throughout all phases (from initial research and development thru subsequent revision, implementation, and perpetual maintenance).
- Design, implement, and maintain project related business documents (project status sheets, project plans, timelines, etc.) and utilize those documents to inform IS Department Management of ongoing efforts/status.
- Conduct interviews with IS Department personnel and other business-side personnel as necessary to capture requisite process-orientated content and to identify additionally required documentation needs.
- Work with the IS Development team to research, develop, implement, and maintain required database models and documentation so as to achieve and maintain SASE compliance.
- As necessary, technically edit new and existing documentation generated by both IS and business-side personnel so as to ensure compliance with existing technical documentation standards and guidelines.
- Work with the IS Development team to research, develop, implement, and maintain required EDI process models and documentation so as to achieve and maintain SASE compliance.
- Design, set up, and maintain a robust documentation system with the ability to house the company's technical documentation and ensure long-term viability and maintainability.
- Perform ad hoc technical writing and project management assignments as required by the Manager of BA/QA/IS Director/CIO to maintain IS Department efficiency and compliance to SASE specifications.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree OR equal experience required. Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology or related field is preferred. Bachelor's degree in Communications, English or related field is acceptable.
- Minimum of five four years of experience writing technically oriented documentation (IS-related is preferred).
- Two to four years of experience working in an IS Department setting. Health Care experience preferred. Practical experience utilizing technical writing industry standards. Practical knowledge of industry documentation standards. Practical knowledge of basic database principles. Health Care Industry knowledge (Medicaid rules/regulations, Medicare rules/regulations, etc.) preferred.

Developer/Technical Writer Needed
September 15, 2012. Develop automated solutions according to the organization's business needs. May include custom software, configuration of packaged software, report development, integration of software systems, rule engine configuration, etc. Follow and provide input into the definition of development standards and best practices. This level of work is considered senior and staff work under minimal supervision. This position has no direct reports and requires extensive use of analysis and decision making to resolve complex, often unique work. Also requires an understanding of key business principles.
Essential job duties.
- Responsible for the development of custom software, software integrations and reports, supporting internal business requirements or external customers
- Design and provide input into design of software. Perform unit testing and develops fixes
- Write technical documentation to support software, software integrations, reports, etc.
- Troubleshoot software-related issues

Required experience.
- Bachelor's Degree in technology discipline or equivalent work experience required
- Five years of experience in software development, with 2 years of object-oriented programming
- Experience supporting high-volume transactional systems preferred
- Ability to convert technology concepts to business solutions
- Ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently and self prioritize workload to meet deadlines
- Strong verbal and written communication and organizational skills
- Five years of experience in developing web-based systems (MVC, OOA/OOD)
- Five years of experience with HTML and CSS
- Three+ years of experience in Ruby on Rails
- Experience in Ruby test-driven development environments, including RSpec and Cucumber
- Experience in Behavior-Driven Design and Development
- Familiarity with Agile Development Methodologies

Work under the guidance of the Project Coordinator to develop and maintain HTML-based help for UltraTax, a tax-return-preparation application used by accountants and other tax professionals. Duties include:
- Accurately and consistently adhering to detailed procedures for each step in the documentation-update process.
- Accurately and efficiently incorporating content changes provided by subject matter experts to accommodate tax-law changes and program enhancements.
- Lightly editing new and revised content to ensure adherence to conventions and quality standards without changing meaning or tax-law content.
- Developing, testing, and troubleshooting server-deployed, HTML-based user assistance.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in technical writing or equivalent preferred. Will consider candidates who are currently enrolled in a professional writing degree program or who have a minimum of two years' experience in technical writing.
- Demonstrated attention to detail.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and a willingness to assist colleagues as needed in order to meet department deadlines.
