| Directions
RelWare is located in Farmington Hills, MI, Northeast
of the I-96 / I-696 / I-275 interchange, within about a half hour from
Metro-Detroit, 45 minutes from Ann Arbor and Flint, and a 90-minute range
of the Jackson, Lansing, Toledo, and Saginaw areas. The entrance to the
office is located on the first floor of the Tri-Atria office building,
off the Southbound side of Northwestern Highway, South of 14 Mile Road
before Middlebelt Road. Look for the main entrance to the Tri-Atria building
on the right, after passing a Home Depot (North of the location along
Northwestern Highway). Park in the free parking lot in front of the main
entrance facing Northwestern Highway—look for a large glass overhang
covering the main entrance—and then enter through that entrance.
An STC/SM greeter will be at the door to let you in. Once inside, go to
the opposite corner of the atrium: walk straight ahead, to the right of
a fountain in the atrium area, turn left at the end of the fountain, and
then walk straight through a small hallway. You will see the entrance
to RelWare straight ahead from the small hallway—look for the sign
on the wall. Come in and register with the STC/SM Program Greeter. |

Description
The Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the Society for Technical Communication
(STC/SM) will offer a program entitled, "Project Management. Have
you considered coming over to the 'dark side'...?" on Thursday, October
29, 2009, hosted at the company RelWare, in Farmington Hills, MI. Ms.
Joyce Zerkich, Scrum Master and Project Manager at RelWare, a software
company specialized in developing Web applications for healthcare, will
cover what the PMP exam requires should you consider becoming one, what
project managers might expect of technical communicators in the workplace,
should you be on a project with one, and what project management skills
technical communicators might learn to improve the project management
of their own projects, including developing tools, writing documentation,
and scheduling work. In addition, as this is the first program to kick-off
the 2009-2010 STC/SM Chapter Program Season, our chapter president will
begin the evening by welcoming STC/SM Members back to the 2009-2010 Chapter
Term. (Notice: Also, as an extra incentive to attend,
we will hold a raffle for attendees to receive a surprise giveaway!)
Please consider attending this excellent opportunity for learning and
networking, meeting in a relaxed, professional environment. For more information
or if you have any other questions, send an email to the Programs Manager
at < programs@stc-sm.org >.
The program
"Project Management. Have you considered coming over to the 'dark
side'...?" will cover what the PMP exam requires and teaches technical
professionals, what project managers might expect of technical communicators
in the workplace, as technical communicators frequently interact with
project management on collaborative projects, and what project management
skills technical communicators might learn to improve the project management
of their own projects, including developing tools, writing multiple forms
of documentation, and scheduling work. Join us to learn: What does a project
manager REALLY do all day long? What does the PMP exam cover? Why would
someone choose to become a project manager? What does the project manager
expect the tech writer to do?
If possible,
please register prior to the program by sending an email to <register@stc-sm.org
>. As guests of members and students, as well as the general public,
are also welcome to attend this excellent educational and networking opportunity,
please let us know that you are coming and if you are bringing guests.
If you are unable to register in advance, please feel free to come anyway;
although we need to plan some items in advance, we would also welcome
your onsite registration.
