Tuesday,
June 28, 2011
The
Southeastern Michigan Chapter of the Society
for Technical Communication (STC/SM) is
presenting the final STC/SM Program Meeting
of the chapter term, on Tuesday, June
28, 2011, hosted at the Hilton Garden
Inn hotel, in Plymouth, MI. In addition
to offering a dinner option, the program
provides
attendees with opportunities to explore
and discuss the award-winning publications
from the 2010 annual STC International
Technical Publications and Online Communications
competition, as well as enjoy a presentation
from Earl Peters, one of the award winners
with a piece in the exhibit—from
a Michigan company.

Top Load Washer Installation Instructions, Winner
of Excellence Award

Account Director, JohnsonRauhoff
In
the major appliance industry, proper installation
is perhaps the single greatest factor in a product's
performance and the customer's satisfaction with
their purchase. When asked to review and offer
up recommendations to improve the installation
instructions for a mass-market washer, our team
jumped at the chance. We were faced with the challenge
of staying within certain format guidelines by
the client, as well as a compressed timeframe,
but were able to include what we considered critical
steps, including getting input from a variety
of key players, as well as executing test installations
using both the old and the new instructions. The
end result was something we felt worthy of submission
for the STC competition, but perhaps far more
important, set a new standard for our client's
installation instructions that has yielded real
world improvements.
STC/SM
is hosting the Annual STC International Technical
Publications and Online Communications Competitions
Traveling Exhibit, including the award-winning
publications from the 2009-2010 competition. The
exhibit includes a variety of documentation-deliverables
for review, analysis, and discussion—as
displayed during the annual STC conference.
