STC/SM Chapter T-Shirt Special Offer

STC/SM is excited to offer STC/SM Chapter Members a special offer to show your STC/SM spirit with an STC/SM T-shirt. The chapter ordered a limited quantity of T-shirts, and is offering the T-shirts for purchase online and and STC/SM events. STC/SM will offer T-shirts while supplies last. Buy one for yourself, or they make great gifts (give one to your loved ones and your boss as a thank you for supporting your commitment to professional development).

STC/SM T-shirts cost $10/shirt, including shipping costs, coming wrapped in a sealed bag from the vendor. The shirts are available in M, L, and XL sizes. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to email the STC/SM Professional Liaison, Jill Money, at < profliaison@stc-sm.org >.

To Order an STC/SM T-Shirt

STC/SM '10 Member Summit Support Program
The STC/SM Council is pleased to announce our STC/SM SUMMIT '10 Member Support Program. It's not too late to register at a reduced rate for the STC 2010 conference. You should get online and check with STC to inquire about registration and rates. Even if you do not make early registration deadlines, you still have plenty of time to consider attending the conference this year. Featuring greater than 80 sessions, keynote presentations, vendors demonstrating the latest tools and technologies, and technical writers from around the world, the conference in Dallas, TX promises to deliver an outstanding educational experience for attendees.

To support our chapter members and encourage greater attendance, STC/SM is announcing a support program exclusively for STC/SM chapter members. The STC/SM Chapter has budgeted $800, roughly the cost of a full registration, to fund this support program. Regardless of whether you already registered, register at a higher rate, or walk-in to the conference, if you are an STC/SM member, you will be eligible to receive an award from our conference fund. For instance, if the chapter receives a single request for support, that member will receive the full $800 allocation; if we receive 8 requests, each chapter member would receive a $100 reward. The amount you would receive depends on how many of our chapter members take advantage of the opportunity to attend the conference-a primary benefit of your STC membership.

To receive an award, you need to email the STC/SM Summit Coordinator at < stc-summit@stc-sm.org >. Send us a receipt showing proof of your registration in electronic format as an email attachment. Please remember to include the following information: first and last name, full mailing address of where you would like us to send the check, and the electronic copy of the conference receipt.

We will determine award amounts and recipients following the conference, on May 12, 2010. This means our reimbursement deadline is May 11, 2010; you have until the end of that day to submit your receipt from the conference. Remember, you must be an STC/SM member to receive an award; make sure you are a member in good standing on May 12, 2010, and send us the necessary info, and you will receive an award.

Please email the STC/SM Summit Coordinator at < stc-summit@stc-sm.org > if you have any questions or comments. We are excited about the conference this year, and are hoping that this stimulus will encourage chapter members to attend. For more information and to register, please visit < www.stc.org > or < http://conference.stc.org/ >, the main website for the conference. As always, stay tuned to the STC/SM Chapter Website for announcements and information about the STC/SM chapter. We look forward to the possibility of seeing you in Dallas!

STC/SM Summer '09 Networking Lunches: Meet the New President & Vice President!

STC/SM Members: please join us for lunch as we close out the summer and get ready for fall '09—we'll pick up the tip!

STC/SM is organizing two networking lunches for summer '09: we are offering you the opportunity to meet the incoming STC/SM President and STC/SM Vice President, as well as STC/SM members in a fun, relaxed setting. In addition to mingling with peers and discussing STC/SM, this will be an occasion to enjoy conversation with people who share professional interests. STC/SM is encouraging STC/SM members to consider attending one of the lunch meetings; others who are interested in an STC/SM membership and/or technical communication in general are also welcome to attend. Although attendees will need to pay for their own food and beverages, STC/SM will pay for some appetizers, and we will cover your tip.

The lunch meetings are spread out geographically to give members from different regions of our chapter an opportunity to attend. The new STC/SM vice president, Maryann Bowen, is hosting the first lunch in Ann Arbor—our "West Side" lunch. Mark Lockwood, STC/SM President, is hosting the second lunch in Royal Oak—our "East Side" lunch. Both the president and VP will be at both lunches. Even if you can make it for only a quick lunchtime lemonade and hello, we would love to see you there.

Please register in advance by sending an email to the host of the lunch you are interested in attending, to let us know you are coming. We will confirm your registration by email. Otherwise, if you have any feedback, comments, or questions, send us an email.
