the 2011 STC Conference CA with an Incentive from STC/SM |

As
announced officially on the STC/SM Listserv, STC/SM
is pleased to announce that we have made funds
available to support chapter members' attendance
of Summit '11, the STC annual conference to be
held from May 15-18 in Sacramento, CA. This is
the third consecutive year we offered this opportunity.
The reimbursement deadline is May 20, 2011; you
have until the end of that day to submit your
receipt from the conference. Remember, you must
be an STC/SM member to receive reimbursement;
make sure you are a member in good standing on
May 21, 2011, and send us the necessary info,
and you will receive a portion of the budgeted
funds. We look forward to the possibility of seeing
you in Sacramento!

Incentive
Details
The
support program will work as it did last year: following
the conference, the funds will be equally allocated
among all members who submit receipts by May 20, 2011.
The amount each member receives will depend on how many
of our chapter members take advantage of the opportunity
to attend the conference—a primary benefit of
your STC membership.

Instructions
for Reimbursement To
receive funds, you need to email the STC/SM
Summit Coordinator at < stc-summit@stc-sm.org
>. Send us a receipt showing proof of your registration
in electronic format as an email attachment. Please
remember to include the following information: first
and last name, full mailing address of where you would
like us to send the check, and the electronic copy of
the conference registration receipt. We will determine
award amounts and recipients following the conference,
on May 21, 2011.

Academic
Scholarship for Students in Technical Communications
|
| As
announced officially on the STC/SM Listserv, STC/SM
is pleased to offer a scholarship opportunity for students
studying technical communication! This is the second
consecutive year we have offered this opportunity, and
we are excited to see some excellent applications. STC/SM
will select two scholarship awards, each in the amount
of $500, and each available to qualified applicants
in either a recognized undergraduate or graduate technical
communications program.

for 2011: The scholarship competition will also be open
to graduate students!**

Chapter Online Member Portfolio Service |
| The
STC/SM chapter is providing space through the chapter
website to all of its members, primarily for the purpose
of creating and maintaining an online portfolio for
a professional job search. With STC/SM setting up and
hosting a basic site, all you have to do is upload your
resume and portfolio to get started. Where it goes from
there is up to you, depending on your needs: you can
upload text, photos, movies—whatever you think
will best show off your skills to prospective employers.
To
request online portfolio space, click the image on the
right to obtain a copy of the Terms & Conditions
and basic procedures for using the site. Follow the
directions in the documentation, or email < webmaster@stc-sm.org>
for more information.

2011 Membership Drive Raffle |

As
announced through the STC/SM Chapter Listserv, STC/SM Members
renewing their memberships by the annual, end-of-year Society
deadline received an automatic entry in the STC/SM 2011 Membership
Drive Raffle. If you have any questions or comments, please

If
you renewed your membership after the deadline, thank you
for renewing. Although the deadline passed for the STC/SM
raffle, it is still not too late to renew your membership
to STC and the STC/SM Chapter. Membership comes with numerous
benefits, including enriching opportunities for technical
communicators to develop skills, network, and maintain a competitive
edge in the profession.

Raffle
Prizes & Drawing STC/SM
is holding the official raffle and drawing names for all 12
prizes at the January STC/SM Chapter Program Meeting. Although
eligible STC/SM members do not need to be present to win a
prize, members can attend the January meeting to claim any
prizes awarded in-person. Or, the prizes will be mailed after
the drawing.
Members who renew or join the chapter by 31 December, 2010
will be entered in a drawing to win one of the following prizes:

The chapter ordered a limited quantity of T-shirts,
and is offering the T-shirts for purchase online and
and STC/SM events. STC/SM will offer T-shirts while
supplies last. Buy one for yourself, or they make great
gifts (give one to your loved ones and your boss as
a thank you for supporting your commitment to professional
development).
STC/SM
T-shirts cost $10/shirt, including shipping costs, coming
wrapped in a sealed bag from the vendor. The shirts
